T & N Wedding Flag
I absolutely loved making the two giant flags that hung from the old covered bridge at our wedding last year. One of the main themes I tried to carry out over our day was that of "lasting"... Just like a marriage is much more than the wedding day, I wanted the items we used to move from the ceremony and reception into our home and our lives in a permanent way. I chose two favorite phrases that meant something to us, so that after the day was over we could hang the flags in our first apartment and be reminded of our promises.
Several months ago, I was asked to create a welcome sign using the same technique as my flags. Custom large scale screen printing is terribly expensive, so when the bride reached out I was glad to tell her I'd figured out a cost effective, hand-made method!
I'll let you in on the secret - I design on the computer, throw it on a flash drive, plug it into my mini projector - and boom, I've got a quick way to trace my design onto a piece of raw canvas. Then I take my pencil outline and fill in the big spots with paint. Finally, I go in with a tiny brush to do details. Start to finish, one of these only takes me several days to complete, tops!
It was so fun making this piece for Tim and Nacira for their special day in Hawaii. If you're interested in a similar piece, let me know!
